THE WHITE TIGER

WHITE TIGER is the story about a young man BALRAM.  He starts to narrate his story to the president of China, who is apparently making a visit to India.  He describes tha his story is an entrepreneur in making and Chinese must learn about it from his story.

He starts to narrate that he is a wanted criminal for murder and yet managed to become one among the successful entrepreneurs.  The description of his childhood starts with the death of his mother, and her cremation.     This has  affectedly brought hatred for his land and his people.  After a few years his father dies too of tuberculosis and hes pulled out of school to start working and share the burden of his family.  The description of his village, the atmosphere and the way of their lives are synonymous with Indians, and so it wasnt hard to imagine at all.

At school he is asked the question "Which animal comes by once in a generation?".  To this he promptly replies, "The White Tiger".  He is given this name as a title as he was a rare bright student of the lot.

He figures out that the future is in the city.  He gets a job as a driver with one of his landlords and starts making money.  He at the  same time loses his innocence and becomes citified with all debauchery, depravity and wickedness.  He stops sending money to his family and starts to enjoy life.

He learns that his kind and caring master is soon to replace him.  This arouses anger in him and he kills his master and flees away with the money.  He starts a new life down south and becomes a successful entrepreneur, still away from the clutches of justice.

This story in total deals with Poverty, Corruption and Treachery.  It reveals the dark side of India, especially those in rural who cannot get even their basics fulfilled.  A hurtful truth that makes the character Balram fall for evil way.  The impact is so hard that though he knows its all a wrong way, goes on to justify them as just a hurdle to the path of a successful entrepreneur.
